WELCOME THE YEAR OF THE GOAT

The Year of the Goat is traditionally associated with kindness, creativity, harmony and a strong sense of community—qualities at the heart of Lancaster Chinese New Year Festival 2027.

Our ticketed Cultural Variety Show takes place at Lancaster Grand Theatre on Sunday 24 January 2027. Doors open at 18:15, with the show running from 19:00 to 21:00. Audiences can enjoy Chinese dance, traditional instrumental music, Shaolin kung fu, Beijing opera and Sichuan opera face-changing, featuring powerful singing, stylised movement, dramatic storytelling and traditional costume.

The free Outdoor Carnival returns on Sunday 31 January 2027 from 10:00 to 17:00, bringing Chinese arts and community celebration to Market Square and Lancaster city centre. The Lion and Dragon Parade begins at 12:00 noon in Market Square, alongside music, dance and community performances.

Free cultural workshops will also take place in Market Square and at Lancaster City Museum, located on Market Square. Full workshop details, locations and capacities will be announced with the final programme.
